DIY Pottery Barn Boys Room Plane Art

Hi Friends
I made this plane art which I knocked off from Pottery Barn a few months ago. I am really happy with the way it turned out. It was a fun little project so I thought I would share about it.

If you enjoy painting this would be a fun project especially if you have boys!
  • I copied the picture from the Pottery Barn site, but you could use any picture you prefer.

  • Once I printed and enlarged it I traced the picture using carbon paper on a piece of wood I had in the garage which I had lightly stained previously using Feast Watson Stain.

  • I hand painted the picture using the Pottery Barn painting as a guide.

  • I framed it with some spare timber pieces I had in our garage using PVA glue. Then finished it off with an all purpose sealer.

This was a fun little project, maybe I will try a truck or train next time.

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.

DIY Pottery Barn Spoon & Fork

Ok just in case you’re wondering, YES I do LOVE Pottery Barn and if it were possible I would live in Pottery Barn. Or if I could I would do a Rachel from ‘Friends’ TV show and decorate my entire house with Pottery Barn furniture! Lol

So sorry PB that I keep coming up with knocks off of your ideas, you just always get everything right and you know exactly what I want!

For instance this lovely Spoon & Fork Canvas. Love it!

But at the moment it’s out of budget for me and it’s actually too big for my tiny kitchen. It wouldn't fit there as it’s probably the size of my kitchen! J So that’s why I had to use your amazing idea and make my own little version.

And it was so much fun and so easy.

It was also the first time, since high school I have used soft pastels. Admittedly I am still not good with them! J But having said that I don’t think it turned out too bad. My husband thought it looked pretty good too.

Here is what I did:
  • I used a 10 x 20 inch canvas.

  • I downloaded the picture from Pottery Barn and opened it in Paint. I copied the spoon and the fork separately and re-sized them to fit on the canvas together as shown in the picture above.
  • I positioned the fork and spoon printouts on the canvas and stuck them in place using tape.

  • With carbon paper I copied the outline of the spoon and fork onto the canvas.

  • With a black soft pastel I went over the outline. I am not sure of the technique for using pastels so I just had fun J I tried to get some shade happening using the original picture as a guide!

I had a lot of fun doing this project and it looks really cute in the kitchen!

Happy Friday!

DIY RHbaby&child Airplane Art

Hi Friends

Hope you have had a lovely week. I came across this picture on http://www.rhbabyandchild.com/

and thought it would look great in Noah’s room but as usual it’s a bit expensive considering I will probably only keep it hanging in his room for a year or two before I decide to redecorate!

So my lovely husband pulled apart some draws I had leftover from the closet I refurbished in my blog post http://anita-brizzi.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/hello-to-start-of-gorgeous-new-week.html as he thought that the wood make nice signs. He is so thoughtful.

So of course I thought I would try my hand at that vintage plane picture and I have to say I am very pleased with the way it turned out!

Here is how:

I stuck the sides of draw together with wood glue. Plus I added some extra strength on the back in the form of a thin piece of wood and screws for security because my lovely husband thought it would be better if I did! (When I don’t listen to him I always wish I did later! :)

Then I painted both sides black.
I sanded the edges with 180 grit paper to get the weathered look.

I enlarged and printed out the picture from http://www.rhbabyandchild.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=rhbc_prod371034&categoryId=rhbc_cat102129 on A4 canvas paper. The picture is good quality so it enlarged pretty well.

I then glued it on the wood using modge podge.

I roughly painted a white outline boarder. I didn’t want it to be perfect.

I then drilled some pilot holes around the edge of the picture so I could hammer black 15 x 1.6mm tacks.

I had very thin leftover one quarter moulding (not sure where from) and I got my hubby to cut it to fit the wood around the edges.
I painted them black and glued it with wood glue around the edges.

And there you have it my knockoff rhbabyandchild airplane picture!
When I get around to finishing Noah’s room I will take a picture of where I have put it.

Well, friends I hope you have an amazing weekend.

Here are those signs I did for my home, which I have no where to hang as of yet! :)

Lotsa love and Blessings

A DIY project inspired by Pottery Barn of course!

I first heard about Pottery Barn while watching Friends TV show many years ago. Remember the one where Rachel is constantly buying things from Pottery Barn behind Phoebes back! Loved it! Anyway, I did a Google search to see if there was such a place as I wasn’t sure being from down under and immediately I fell in love with the store. Then when I was in America a few years back I dragged my husband to every Pottery Barn store we came across and like Rachel I wanted to take the store home with me and make it my home!

I am totally one of those bloggers who do those copycat projects of pottery bar items. Pottery Barn just know what the people like! Maybe not Phoebe so much!

Well not too long ago I was browsing their site wishing I was in America when I came across this Alphabet Canvas sign for a boys room. I loved it but couldn't get it delivered, so I thought I would try my hand at creating my own personalised version.

As teaching Noah about Jesus and His love for us is my number one priority as a mother I thought it would be nice to include things about our faith in the pictures.

My faith in God has been the best thing that has ever happen to me, it has really helped me through some awful days. When I think about my experiences, I guess I could have easily entered a state of depression, being in hospital so many times a year, or not having the energy to look after my little precious one, whatever challenges I face I truly believe as I keep my eyes focused on Jesus He provides inner strengths like peace, hope and joy to not only cope with what’s going on but also to maintain a positive attitude. My faith has given me love for life despite living with a condition I don’t want to have and a knowing that despite it all I am truly loved by Him. So naturally I would like to give Noah this foundation.

Noah and I were both pleased with the result!

My version took some time but it was worth it. I could have made it smaller but I wanted it to stand out and Noah to give it some attention!

          Steps
  • I used Canson Canvas Paper (oil & Acrylic Sketch), Boyle Spray Adhesive, Propaint Canvas, and an Inkjet Printer.

  •  I used my own personal photos as well as photos from the net. (I listed the sites I copied pictures from as I always want to give credit where due.)
  • For the alphabet letters a lot were from photos of signs we took on previous holidays and some from the net.
  • I copied the photos and letters over to Microsoft Word and once I joined the letter and photo together I made them to size so they would fit the canvas I purchased.  I tested a few on paper to check for size before printing them on canvas sheets.
  • I printed 2-3 letters and photos per A4 canvas sheet. I cut the letter and photo attached then glued each of them separately on the canvas. I used Boyle Spray Adhesive and gently held each one down securely for a minute or so.
  • I kept the Canvas laying flat while gluing the pictures as the ink can run slightly especially when you start using the spray, so press lightly ...without touching the pictures too much.
  • I let the ink and glue dry overnight and as my baby would say “Done!”
Have a beautiful day!
